Monument Health Opens Region's First Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
Monument Health announced the opening of a two-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at Rapid City Hospital. The unit, which began seeing patients in February 2026, is the first of its kind in the region and represents a significant investment in neurological care for communities across western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming.

Every year, an estimated 65,000 patients come through the Level 2 Trauma Center at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, the largest and busiest ER in the tri-state area. For more than three decades, Dr. Stephen Dick has been the personification of hope for many of those patients as well as a model of compassion, strength, and humility for his ER colleagues.
Six Doctors Complete Family Medicine Residency
Monument Health announced that six physicians graduated from the Rapid City Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program on Thursday, June 30. Three of the six will remain in western South Dakota to practice medicine at Monument Health facilities.
