South Dakota Healthcare Professionals! Infection Control Resources Are Available To Keep You Current

“Whether you’re a seasoned professional who needs to stay up to date on the latest infection control procedures, or you’re a new healthcare worker who is learning about infection prevention, PFL is your go-to resource.” – Dr. Stephan Schroeder, Sioux Falls

SD Project Firstline (PFL) offers new, updated CDC resources. No two days are the same in healthcare but caring for and protecting patients is always the top priority. With a foundational knowledge about germ spread and the “why” behind infection control, healthcare workers can learn to recognize infection risks and make the right decisions to protect their patients and themselves, regardless of what the day brings.

What is PFL? Project Firstline’s goal is to educate healthcare workers on infection prevention and control to protect the nation from infectious disease threats, such as COVID-19.

“Infectious diseases like covid-19, flu, and RSV aren’t going away,” said Dr. Stephan Schroeder, Medical Director for the SD Foundation for Medical Care. “That’s why educating our South Dakota healthcare workforce on the latest infection control procedures is so important – to protect the state from emerging disease threats.”

FREE Resources. Recognizing the need for online education, SD Project Firstline launched a new website: sdprojectfirstline.org. It offers interactive infection control resources and nine online CDC training modules.

The free educational resources are offered in a variety of formats, to meet the preferences of the healthcare workforce. Video modules educate on topics ranging from infection safety to environmental cleaning and disinfection to ventilation and hand hygiene.

Posters can be downloaded and put up in a break room, and interactive activities such as a “What’s Wrong with this Picture?” activity can be used to educate staff on infection prevention and to encourage discussion. The SD Project Firstline team also offers customized training for healthcare organizations.

Partners on Project Firstline in South Dakota include the South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care, the South Dakota Department of Health, and the CDC.
