Si Issler, Registered Nurse, Receives DAISY Award

Si Issler, a Registered Nurse at Rapid City Hospital HVU, has received the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community. She was nominated by a family member of a patient.

The nominator wrote, “There were so many moments of kindness and above normal care standards that we saw when you were my mom’s nurse. You truly listened to my mom when she spoke about her body and her concerns. You always treated her with respect and not like she was an inconvenience. I appreciate your firm, yet extremely compassionate interactions with my mom. You really seemed to know when she needed your ear to listen or if she needed your firm motivation to do what she needed to do.”

Si took the time to help determine the cause of the patient’s pain so the appropriate medication could be administered to remedy the issue. The family member continued, “Thank you again for your kindness to my mom and support to my entire family. You are a nurse that goes above and beyond! You made a difficult situation more bearable.”

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. Nurses are also honored in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Spearfish and Sturgis. Visit monument.health/daisy to nominate.
