Senior Behavioral Health Receives Positive Evaluation

The hospital’s senior behavioral unit recently scored extremely well in a Horizon Health audit. Horizon Health is a behavioral management system that helps improve behavioral health programs while keeping the hospital’s goals top of mind.

“The annual inpatient clinical quality audit is conducted annually at all Horizon Health programs,” said Martha Ryan, vice president of Horizon Health Clinical Services. “Each program must obtain a minimum score of 85%. Any program scoring less than 85% is re-audited in three to six months. The audit assists in maintaining regulatory and accreditation survey readiness.”

The audit assesses 17 focus areas to determine whether they are compliant with state and federal regulations and Joint Commission standards.

The senior behavioral health unit scored a 93.9% on the annual clinical quality audit. The audit score recognizes the staff’s and organization’s commitment to delivering quality, patient-centered behavioral health care for the seniors, families and community members they serve.

The 10-bed unit offers short-term care in a safe environment with 24-hour psychiatric supervision. A multidisciplinary team meets daily to discuss patients’ care and progress and assess their needs.

“I am excited to see how all the elements needed for a successful unit come together,” said Dr. Kavier Saxena, senior behavioral health medical director. “We continue to refine referral processes and have successfully put together a quality team. The community seems to finally be aware of what we have to offer as we continue to see referrals from new resources. We are looking forward to the year ahead.”

The audit shows that the unit’s practice leads to increased quality of care and improved patient outcomes.
