Sanford Health to Explore AI Integration in Health Care

David Newman

Sanford Health will take part in a discussion on integrating AI into health care at an event put on by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Inc. (HIMSS).

The AI in Healthcare Forum takes place on Sept. 5 and 6 in Boston, Mass. Event goers will be able to learn about the latest trends and technological advancements from industry leaders, health care professionals and those already using AI in the health care setting.

David Newman, M.D., chief medical officer of virtual care at Sanford Health, will speak at a panel titled, “Taming the Wild West of AI in Health Care”. Dr. Newman will be joined by Dr. Lee Schwamm, chief digital health officer at Yale New Haven Health System, Yale School of Medicine and Dr. Eve Cunningham, group vice president, chief of virtual care and digital health, Providence. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Zeev Neuwirth, physician executive, author, speaker and podcast host, Reframe Healthcare.

“Taming the Wild West of AI in Healthcare” takes the center stage on Friday, Sept. 6, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Panel members will address the challenges of governing AI and guiding health systems in finding the right solutions to revolutionize patient care responsibly. The panel will offer guidance on the chaotic influx of solutions, identify strategic partners and more.

“AI is the future of health care, and the future is almost here,” said Dr. Newman. “I am excited to cut through the noise and hype and offer real-world examples about how AI and new advancements in technology will help to transform the patient and provider experience, reduce zip-code based disparities and bring care closer to home for the patients we serve across America’s heartland.”

In addition to his role as medical officer of virtual care, Newman practices endocrinology at Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D. He also serves as an assistant professor of medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Services.

Sanford Health’s transformative 60,000 square-foot Sanford Virtual Care Center is scheduled to open later this year. The facility, located in Sioux Falls, will feature dedicated clinician workspaces equipped with the latest telemedicine technology to offer a variety of service lines, including on-demand urgent care, behavioral health care and primary care. The building will also house innovation, education and research initiatives to advance digital health care and workforce solutions for the future.
