International Symposium On Child Abuse
Members from the Sanford Health Traumatic Stress Treatment Center, Treatment Collaborative for Traumatized Youth (TCTY), Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Red River Children’s Advocacy Center recently attended the 40th International Symposium on Child Abuse in Huntsville, Ala.
The collaboration was made possible through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration funded programs Project REACH-ND (Reducing Barriers, Expanding Access, and Advancing Trauma Care for Children to Heal in North Dakota) and MUSC Telehealth Outreach Program for Traumatic Stress (MUSC TOP-TS). The International Symposium on Child Abuse provided expert training and networking opportunities to professionals in the child maltreatment field. This conference addressed all aspects of child maltreatment, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, exposure to violence, poly-victimization, exploitation, intervention, trafficking and prevention.
Nicola Herting, PhD, pediatric psychology, co-presented on “Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) via Telehealth: Topics and Techniques” and “Changing Access for Rural and Underserved Youth Needing Services for Problematic Sexual Behaviors.”
“The presentations explore how to utilize telehealth in evidence-based treatment as a tool to reduce barriers, expand access and advance equity,” said Dr. Herting.
