New Allergy Testing Service Can Identify What’s Making You Itch

Dr. Aaron Pinion, Allergist at Platte Valley Medical Clinic is now offering a new allergy testing service called “patch testing” to help patients better pinpoint substances causing skin rashes (also known as Contact Dermatitis).

The testing patient takes about a week to complete. The patient will come into the clinic and have small amounts of common allergens applied to his/her back and covered with a patch. The patient will keep the patches on while going about normal daily activities and have them checked twice during the one-week period. At the end of this process Dr. Pinion will be able to see what allergens are causing the skin to react.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, more than 15,000 substances can cause an allergic skin reaction. Patch testing is just one way an allergist can help properly diagnose Contact Dermatitis and recommend the correct treatment plan. Dr. Pinion will evaluate each patient’s common allergen exposures based on lifestyle, occupational and other indicators, and recommend a customized testing and treatment plan.

Referrals for patch testing can be made by a physician, or by self-referral.
