Mrs. Iowa Makes Special Visit to UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s – Downtown

Mrs. Iowa recently spent time at our Downtown Campus  visiting with patients and team members and spreading positivity throughout the day. Heidi Day,  who was announced as United States of America’s Mrs. Iowa in October, brings her title to life  through the same servant-hearted approach she practices every day as a neuro-ortho nurse at  the Downtown Campus.

“Nursing is a profession devoted to serving,” Day shares. “Being a representative in any  capacity is also an act of service.” Those experiences, she says, have strengthened both her  leadership skills and her ability to advocate for others. Day credits her nursing background with  preparing her to serve in this role, noting that caring for patients in vulnerable moments has  shaped her sensitivity, compassion and ability to connect with others.

Mental health is at the heart of Heidi’s platform and passion. Through her work helping establish  Agape Community Services, a long-term mental health treatment facility planned near the new  jail in Sioux City, she hopes to build stronger partnerships that support healing and recovery.  Day believes mental wellness is foundational to personal growth and community strength and  that meaningful relationships play a critical role in restoring confidence and purpose.

“I am guided by my faith and deep sense of purpose,” says Day. “I strive to make everyone I  encounter feel loved, seen and valued.” During her visit, she did just that: sharing smiles,  offering encouragement and reconnecting with coworkers, leaving a lasting impression that  reflects the compassion and dedication our team brings to care every day.
