Medical Students’ Match Day For Residency Assignments To Be Held On March 15

WHAT: Medical students from the University of Nebraska Medical Center will learn their residency assignments on Match Day, joining their counterparts at schools nationwide, as graduating medical students learn for the first time where they will be studying their chosen specialties.

WHERE: The event will be held at the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine St., on the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Scott Campus.

WHEN: Doors will open at 10 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITUES: Members of the media are invited to attend the event and speak to students and their families about their matches, their time at UNMC and their hopes and plans. UNMC College of Medicine leaders also will be on hand. Approximately 140 students will be matching at the event.

Medical students also are available for interviews prior to Match Day. Possible student feature stories include:

  • A student whose father had a liver transplant during medical school. The faculty members who taught the student and his classmates that curriculum also were the ones who saved his father’s life.

  • A student who had a baby during medical school, in September 2023, and her classmate and good friend delivered the baby. Both are matching on Friday.

  • A student who lost her husband recently following his long battle with AML.

  • A student who competed in his last year of track and field at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during his first year of medical school. Throughout the spring semester, he would travel for track meets while keeping up with classwork and exams.
