McCook Agencies to Conduct Emergency Preparedness Drill Aug. 20
Community Hospital, Red Willow County Emergency Management, and the City of McCook will partner to conduct a yearly community-wide emergency preparedness DRILL on Thursday, August 20, to test and strengthen coordinated emergency response efforts. The drill is scheduled for approximately 5 to 7 p.m. and will take place on South Street at the southeast corner of Parker Hannifin.
As part of the exercise, South Street from Highway 83 west to the southeast corner of the Parker Hannifin parking lot will be closed beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. to allow emergency personnel and equipment to safely participate in the scenario. Residents may notice an increased presence of ambulances, fire trucks, law enforcement vehicles, emergency responders, volunteers, and simulated victims in the area during the exercise.
The drill is designed to provide local agencies with an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, improve interagency coordination, and identify opportunities to enhance preparedness for real-world emergencies.
Community members are reminded that this is only a drill and there is no actual emergency. Those traveling through the area should plan for temporary traffic disruptions and are encouraged to avoid the immediate vicinity of the exercise during the event.
The agencies involved appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as they work together to improve emergency preparedness and response capabilities throughout the community.
