JLG Architects’ Marissa Arroyo Earns Healthcare Interior Design Certification
Marissa Arroyo
On September 26, 2026, JLG Architects’ Marissa Arroyo, Interior Designer III, earned her CHID Certified Healthcare Interior Designers certification from the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID). Arroyo is already an NCIDQ-certified Interior Designer and now one of only two CHID Interior Designers in the state of North Dakota.
CHID is the premier certification in healthcare interior design, requiring exhaustive study and testing across clinical workflows, life safety codes, materials performance, and patient-centered healing environments. According to AAHID, the credential is considered the benchmark for healthcare interior design qualifications on government and private sector Request for Qualifications.
Arroyo, who is originally from New Rockford, ND, is a North Dakota State University alumna who graduated from the CIDA Accredited Interior Design Program in May 2018. She began her career at JLG Architects in 2019, advancing from Interior Design Project Support to her current role of Interior Designer III in January of this year. Some of her more notable healthcare-focused projects include the Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown, ND, Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND, and Black Hills Children’s Home in Rapid City, SD.
“People often assume interior design is all about color palettes and pretty materials, but in healthcare, design is fundamentally about people, safety, and healing,” said Arroyo. “It is about being creative in a world that has limitations and restrictions, accepting that challenge, and doing something real with it to create environments that are a benefit to all its users — from visitors and patients to the staff using the space every day. Earning this certification means gaining deeper knowledge in evidence-based design, infection prevention, acoustic control, and the complex codes that keep patients, families, and caregivers safe across acute, ambulatory, and residential care settings, then incorporating that into beautiful spaces that make an impact that a patient, a provider, a healthcare organization and its staff can all be proud of.”
“Marissa’s Certification for Healthcare Interior Design strengthens our ability to help systems make informed interior design decisions that support efficient provider workflows, patient comfort and dignity, infection-control priorities, and durable, adaptable spaces built for long-term use. Gaining this specialized knowledge doesn’t just demonstrate a higher degree of dedication to the field, it shows her dedication to advancing exceptional environments for patients, providers, and the healthcare organizations we serve.”
