Lexington Regional Health Center Unveils Enhanced Barium Swallow Studies

Lexington Regional Health Center (LRHC) is thrilled to announce the addition of Modified  Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) to our range of services, in collaboration with our Radiology and Speech Therapy departments. This new service will be available every Tuesday and requires a provider's order.

What is MBSS? A Modified Barium Swallow Study provides a direct view of oral, pharyngeal, and upper esophageal  function via X-ray. Conducted by our skilled Speech-Language Pathologists, Bailey Irwin and Brooke Wetovick, alongside  a radiologist, this procedure helps identify swallowing difficulties and aspiration risks by visualizing food and liquid mixed  with barium in real time.

Why MBSS? This service is crucial for individuals having trouble swallowing foods, drinks, or medications. It helps assess  the anatomy and physiology of the swallow function, ensuring better health outcomes for our community.

Service Details:

  • Where: Lexington Regional Health Center (LRHC) Radiology Department

  • Who: Conducted by Speech-Language Pathologists Bailey Irwin and Brooke Wetovick, in conjunction with the  Radiology department
