Larson Recognized With DAISY Award At HRMC
Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Lacey Larson, RN, as a recipient of the DAISY Award.
Larson works as a nurse in the HRMC home care and hospice department. She was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient who shared, “I was having a bad time trying to deal with all that was upon me with skin issues from an air cast. Lacey totally understood, talked to me and gave me pointers.” The patient continued, “She cleaned my leg and took the extra time to clip and clean my toenails and left me feeling like a million bucks.”
Larson began her career in health care at the young age of 14 as a dining assistant at a local nursing home. At age 16, she took courses to become a certified nurse aide and eventually completed her education to become a registered nurse, continuing her work within long term care until she joined HRMC in 2014.
“I really enjoy home care because you still get to care for patients, but when we go into a home, we really get to know them.” Larson said she was surprised upon receiving the DAISY Award, “Sometimes, as a nurse, we end up saving lives by noticing things about the patients we care for. It’s humbling to know that we can make such a difference to an individual when we notice that someone just needs extra compassion and support.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Larson and her husband, Shad, live in rural Iroquios and have four children, Taelyn (12), Layten (7), Kylan (5), and Dettyn (2). In their spare time, they enjoy attending the activities of their children, camping and spending time with family.
Larson is the sixth DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receives fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care.
