Krohn Joins Osteoporosis Specialty Clinic In Harvey
St Aloisius Hospital, a part of the SMP Health system welcomes Dr. Kelly Krohn who is an internationally known expert in osteoporosis and related bone diseases. Currently Dr Krohn serves as the Medical Director of the Bone Health program at the CORE institute in Phoenix and a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Arizona Phoenix College of Medicine. Prior to that position Dr Krohn was the US lead physician at Eli Lilly for the drug Forteo (teriparatide). For over 20 years Dr Krohn has limited his clinical work and research to osteoporosis and the various treatments for bone disease. He was a clinical investigator for most of the bisphosphonates, denosumab and teriparatide. The practice in Phoenix is a full-time bone health practice staffed by Dr Krohn and two well trained ANP’s.
Dr Krohn grew up in Harvey and his parents owned the local drugstore. His father loved horses and established a beautiful equine facility outside of Harvey. Kelly is also a horse fan and purchased the farm (O & M Crown Morgan Farm) about 10 years ago. He connected with the St Aloisius administration and helped them set up quality bone density testing with a new DEXA machine about 4 years ago. He then started seeing consultation in bone health/osteoporosis one day per month in the St Aloisius Clinic adjacent to the hospital.
Dr Krohn is semi-retiring and moving back to Harvey. He will continue to teach in Phoenix and remotely supervise the two ANP’s who have been working with him in Phoenix. He will continue to see patients monthly in Harvey and if there is demand would consider more days of clinic. He welcomes referrals from primary care providers and orthopaedic surgeons. His areas of expertise are standard postmenopausal osteoporosis, male osteoporosis, glucocorticoid osteoporosis, bone loss associated with breast cancer treatment, etc. Dr. Krohn has extensive research and clinical experience in using anabolic drugs such as teriparatide to assist in fracture healing and potentially augmenting spine fusion.
