Karla Rosendahl wins Sheaf of Wheat Award

Karla Rosendahl

Columbus Community Hospital recently presented Karla Rosendahl with the Sheaf of Wheat Award for hospital employees who make lasting impressions on patients or their families.

Rosendahl is a home visitor with the hospital’s Healthy Families program. A patient nominated her for the award, noting that that she could not have survived her maternity leave after having twins without Rosendahl’s help. She added that Rosendahl also greatly assisted her and her husband during their six-month foster placement shortly thereafter.

In the nomination letter, the patient wrote that when she had her twins, her farmer husband was in the harvest season and unable to spend much time at home. Rosendahl assisted with those life-changing events.

“Karla quickly became an anchor in our chaotic little world,” she wrote. “She would come over and sit with me, ask how the three of us were doing, and hold one of the babies, bringing a major sense of calm and comfort.”

Then, when they were fostering a toddler from their extended family, Rosendahl helped the patient and her husband find resources for the child, decipher confusing court documents and set up child therapy appointments.

Hospital representatives presented Rosendahl with a certificate of recognition and a Sheaf of Wheat plaque on Tuesday, June 11. She is the 15th Sheaf of Wheat recipient.

To nominate a hospital employee for a Sheaf of Wheat Award, you can complete a pamphlet and return it to any Sheaf of Wheat nomination box. Boxes are located throughout the hospital and at coordinating hospital sites. You can submit online nominations at columbushosp.org.
