Hospital Employees Win Scholarships

Columbus Community Hospital recently announced the winners of its 2022 health care scholarships and apprenticeship programs. Two hospital employees received scholarship funds for tuition, books and other education-related expenses.

Below is a list of the scholarship/apprenticeship recipients:

Respiratory Therapy Scholarship: Jasmine Adame of Columbus will participate in Columbus Community Hospital’s Respiratory Therapy Scholarship/Apprenticeship program.

Adame has worked in the hospital’s housekeeping department since March 2020. She took an interest in the respiratory therapy department because she viewed it as a rewarding opportunity to directly impact patient care. The scholarship will enable Adame to complete the online respiratory therapy program through Southeast Community College. She will also work as a respiratory therapy tech at the hospital as her school workload permits.

Medical Laboratory Scientist Scholarship: Jacqueline Olson of Neligh, Nebraska, received the Medical Laboratory Scientist Scholarship.

Olson will receive her medical laboratory technician degree from Central Community College in Grand Island, Nebraska, in August 2022. She previously worked as a phlebotomist at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill, Nebraska, and accepted a position with the hospital’s laboratory department on an as-needed basis. She will attend South Dakota State University’s Upward Mobility MLT to MLS online program, and sit for the MLS/MT national certification exam at the end of the program.
