Hastings Family Care Adds Acute Care Services For Patients Who Cannot Wait

Many of us have been in a situation when we weren’t sure whether a cut requires stitches, or the fever needs immediate attention.

Going to the Emergency Room might seem daunting. That’s why Hastings Family Care recently

added an Acute Care Clinic to meet the needs of patients who have non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Starting April 1, walk-ins to the Acute Care Clinic are available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The clinic is open to anyone, not just established Hastings Family Care patients. Walk-ins are welcome. However, during regular clinic business hours, it is best to schedule an appointment to assure you aren’t waiting for a long time.

Blaine Cornelius, PA-C, and Lisa Brown, APRN, staff the Acute Care Clinic. Acute care is perfect for sprains, strains and minor breaks; small cuts and bleeding that may require stitches; fevers, flu and colds; minor asthma attacks; infections; vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration; sore throat and cough; rashes and minor allergic reactions; x-rays and blood work and other non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that cannot wait for an appointment.

“Acute care is like urgent care,” Cornelius said. “There are times when care cannot wait but the situation is not severe enough that the patient feels like a more expensive emergency room visit is necessary. We want to provide care without making patients wait for an appointment.”

Hastings Family Care continues to offer regular appointments with its other providers. Appointments are best for wellness exams and physicals; immunizations; hospital follow-ups; routine prescription/

medication checks; chronic health issues; allergy testing and shots; routine pregnancy care; colonoscopies; and other screenings and evaluations.

The Emergency Room is the best place for medical emergencies including heart attack, stroke or serious injury.
