Federal Trust Building Opens New Chapter with Stonebrook Companies and Nebraska Hospital Association

The historic Federal Trust Building, located at 13th and N Streets in downtown Lincoln, is entering a new chapter as the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) prepares to move its headquarters into the revitalized landmark.

The Old Fed LLC team—led by Steve Kunkel and Jason Reinke of the Stonebrook Companies—acquired the 12-story Gothic Revival building with a clear vision: to restore its architectural heritage while creating a vibrant center of civic and professional collaboration in the heart of the city. The building also represents a thoughtful and strategic addition to the Stonebrook Companies real estate portfolio.

“Our interest in the Federal Trust Building began with its incredible location—right in the civic heart of Lincoln, just steps from the Capitol and City Hall,” said Steve Kunkel, Co-CEO of Stonebrook Companies. “But more than that, it’s a structure with history and purpose. Our goal has always been to preserve its architectural character while restoring its role as a cornerstone of the community.”

Jason Reinke, Co-CEO of Stonebrook Companies, added: “This is more than a renovation—it’s a reinvestment in Lincoln’s future. We’re intentionally attracting organizations that serve the public good and contribute to the city’s momentum. The Federal Trust Building is becoming a place where leadership, advocacy, and innovation intersect.”

The Nebraska Hospital Association is a natural partner in that vision. With a nearly century-long history of advocating for the state’s hospitals and health systems, the NHA plays a vital role in shaping health care policy, workforce development, and public health outcomes across Nebraska.

“We’re proud to be part of this transformation,” said Jeremy Nordquist, President of the NHA. “Relocating our headquarters to the heart of Lincoln positions us closer to the decision-makers we engage with every day. We believe in the future of downtown Lincoln and see this move as a long-term investment in the health of our organization and the communities we serve.”

The NHA will occupy four floors of the building, including a full remodel of the first and second floors to create a dedicated event space for members and partners. The association will also relocate its administrative offices to the eighth and ninth floors, including headquarters space for its Bio-Electronics subsidiary.

Stonebrook Companies also plans to relocate its corporate headquarters to the 12th floor—reinforcing the building’s role as a central hub for leadership, advocacy, and innovation.

Among its many features, the building also houses a 1,130-square-foot underground vault with a 17-ton door—now home to a secure data center operated by Binary.Net.

In addition to welcoming new tenants, Old Fed LLC has preserved the leases of long-standing organizations in the building, including Crosby Guenzel LLP and the ACLU of Nebraska—ensuring continuity and stability as the building moves into its next era.

A limited number of premium office suites remain available in the Federal Trust Building for organizations aligned with its mission of impact, innovation, and civic purpose. For leasing inquiries or to schedule a private tour, please contact Jayme Shelton at (402) 525-6648 or jayme@reddoorne.com.
