Benjamin Dush Named Columbus Community Hospital Sheaf of Wheat Winner

Benjamin Dush

Columbus Community Hospital is proud to recognize Benjamin Dush, a food service aide in nutrition services, as the second-quarter Sheaf of Wheat Award winner. Dush’s patience, kindness and commitment to exceptional service made a lasting impression on a patient during a recent hospitalization.

An emergency surgery led to the patient’s unexpected hospital stay. Throughout the hospitalization, many caregivers welcomed the patient and treated them as a person rather than simply a patient number. Among those who made the experience memorable, Dush stood out for his attentiveness and compassionate approach.

As the patient recovered from surgery and dietary needs changed, Dush took the time to explain available food options and accommodate each change. He remained patient and understanding while working with the patient and care team to meet evolving dietary needs.

Dush went above and beyond when delivering meals. He set up the bedside table and meal tray to make sure everything was within reach, then returned later to collect the items. These thoughtful gestures provided additional comfort and demonstrated Dush’s commitment to treating each patient as an individual.

The nominator noted that, for a Midwesterner, deciding what to do and what to eat are two important parts of everyday life. Dush brought that sentiment to life through his patience, respect and compassion. His thoughtful service left a lasting impression, leading the nominator to describe him as an asset and gift to the organization.

Dush’s dedication reflects the compassion and excellence that define Columbus Community Hospital. His willingness to take extra time so he could meet individual needs demonstrates how simple acts of kindness and attentive service can make a meaningful difference during a hospital stay.
