Dr. Sorrell Appointed First-Ever Philanthropy Champion at Good Samaritan
Dr. William Thomas Sorrell
Dr. William Thomas Sorrell was named the first-ever Champion of Philanthropy during a ceremony today at CHI Health Good Samaritan.
The inaugural CHI Health Good Samaritan Champion of Philanthropy Award, presented by the Good Samaritan Foundation, honors outstanding achievements in philanthropy—shining a light on an individual who gives generously of their time, resources, efforts, including recruitment and advocacy, to support Good Samaritan in a meaningful way. Presented in conjunction with National Doctors’ Day, the achievement will be recognized annually.
“We are so grateful for Dr. Sorrell. He supports the mission of the Good Samaritan Foundation in everything he does. Not only is he a skilled surgeon for our patients, he also gives of his time and resources to programs and services that help our community. He is a treasure to our region and the perfect recipient for our first Champion of Philanthropy Award,” says Cindi Richter, director, Good Samaritan Foundation.
Dr. Sorrell is president of the medical staff, trauma medical director and a board certified surgeon at Good Samaritan. He has served the hospital and region for more than 25 years. Ongoing appreciation for his contributions and altruism is reflected in several nominations submitted by staff, patients and the community:

“Dr. Sorrell is an excellent teacher and advocate. He connects with patients, families, students and peers, putting them at ease with humor, while taking time to get to know and really connect with them.”
“Dr. Sorrell is passionate about rural trauma education traveling to critical access hospitals to help them improve care. During these visits he goes above and beyond by teaching a chest tube/cricothyrotomy skills lab on the same day. Recently, one of the facilities performed a life-saving surgical airway on a patient using skills learned from Dr. Sorrell.”
National Doctors’ Day, observed on March 30, is a day to recognize and appreciate the dedication, skill and unwavering commitment of physicians in providing high-quality health care to individuals and communities worldwide.
