Dr. Shawn Brandenburg Achieves Board Certification In Orthopedic Surgery
Columbus Community Hospital congratulates Dr. Shawn Brandenburg, an orthopedic surgeon with Columbus Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic, for achieving board certification in orthopedic surgery from the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery (AOBOS).
Board certification is a voluntary step that differs from the medical licensure process and is the highest standard in orthopedic surgery. It signifies that surgeons have demonstrated to their peers and the public that they have the clinical judgment, surgical skills and ability to provide excellent patient care.
"I am proud to have achieved my board certification and continue offering skills to our community," Brandenburg said. "I'm invested in what I do and always have my patient's best interest at heart. This certification ensures I stay updated with the latest information to give my patients the best outcome possible."
To obtain board certification through the AOBOS, Brandenburg had to undergo a rigorous, two-year process, which included a written and oral examination and a detailed verbal review of five of the 200 surgical cases submitted.
"I am very proud of Dr. Brandenburg's accomplishment," said Dr. Mark Howerter, chief medical officer for Columbus Community Hospital. "The American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery has validated his work and knowledge base. The community needs to know this is not an easy undertaking, but it speaks highly of Dr. Brandenburg, as do the vast majority of his patients."
"As with other sub-specialty organizations, the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery has very stringent standards for achieving full certification," said Dr. Bryan Scheer, medical director for Columbus Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic. "This recognition highlights Dr. Brandenburg's determination and expertise. CCH patients are in the best of hands."
Brandenburg focuses on treating knees and hips, and has completed more than 575 robotic-assisted hip and knee replacements with the use of the MAKO robot. He also takes a special interest in treating orthopedic trauma.
