Dr. Majorie Heier To Be Honored With The American Academy Of Family Physicians “2024 Humanitarian Award”
Marjorie Heier, MD, FAAFP
Center for Family Medicine and the Sioux Falls Family Medicine Residency congratulate faculty member Marjorie Heier, MD, FAAFP on her selection as the recipient of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) “2024 Humanitarian Award”.
“This award was developed to acknowledge extraordinary and enduring humanitarian efforts, both within and beyond the borders of the United States. We hope the award will encourage AAFP members, their families and their colleagues to assume a sense of global responsibility and will motivate service to others.” says AAFP President Steven Furr, MD, FAAFP.
Dr. Heier has been a valued faculty member of the Sioux Falls Family Medicine Residency since 2020, educating Resident Family Physicians at both the Center for Family Medicine Clinic and Falls Community Health. Her work includes providing full-spectrum medical care in the rural African country of Zambia, an area of limited resources and healthcare accessibility.
Dr. Furr continues, “Serving as the only doctor and the director at Chifundo Rural Health Center, Dr. Heier showcased her ability to integrate into the culture and with local physicians and nurses. Her ingenuity and tenacity were on display as she and her team found ways to provide the center with the needed resources to get it off the ground, leading to the integration of the clinic into the local health care system.”
Dr. Marjorie Heier will be honored at the 2024 Congress of Delegates in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday, September 23, 2024.
