Dr. Kevin Karls, Gastroenterology Specialist, Joins Essentia Health-Mid Dakota Bismarck 9th Street Clinic

Dr. Kevin Karls, who specializes in gastroenterology, is excited to join the Essentia Health-Mid Dakota Bismarck 9th Street Clinic.

“For years, I have wanted to improve how we provide digestive health care in this part of the state,” explained Dr. Karls, a Bismarck native who has practiced gastroenterology in his hometown for 14 years. “Essentia has brought together an outstanding group of GI providers at this clinic, with a vision to make this the premier destination for GI and liver care in western North Dakota.

“In addition, the clinic is home to many excellent physicians that I have been working with side-by-side for over 10 years already.”

Dr. Karls earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Indiana University in Indianapolis. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

“All throughout my education, I was fascinated by the incredible variety of roles the digestive organs play in our daily lives, and the diseases that affect them,” said Dr. Karls. “I was also drawn to the procedural aspect of gastroenterology, as I was able to play a more active role in both treating many problems and effectively preventing others.”
