Dr. Benson Hsu of Avera Children's Hospital Appointed to the Board of Regents of the American College of Critical Care Medicine

Dr. Benson Hsu

Benson S. Hsu, MD, MBA, FAAP, FCCM, a pediatric critical care physician at Avera Children's Hospital, has been elected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM). Dr. Hsu is one of only 10 Fellows selected nationally to serve on this board, representing one of the highest honors in the field of critical care medicine and recognizing his significant contributions to advancing patient care, medical education, and health care innovation. Hsu becomes one of the few physicians from a rural health care system to attain this prestigious position, underscoring the increasing acknowledgment of the unique challenges and innovations in rural critical care medicine.

Hsu brings vast leadership experience to this role, having previously served as Chair of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Critical

Care (SOCC) and as a member of several national committees focused on pediatric emergency medicine and hospital care. He has authored over 10 national policy statements and clinical practice guidelines that have influenced pediatric critical care practices nationwide, including the 2019 national update on pediatric intensive care leveling and the 2022 guidance on structuring pediatric intermediate care units. His election to the ACCM Board of Regents follows his recognition as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine in 2020, making him the only critical care physician in South or North Dakota at the time to achieve this designation.
