Dakota Allergy & Asthma Celebrates 25 Years of Serving Sioux Falls Families
Marking a quarter-century of trusted allergy and asthma care, with a continued focus on allergies, asthma, food allergies, and patient education
Dakota Allergy & Asthma is celebrating 25 years of caring for patients and families across Sioux Falls and the surrounding region. Founded in January 2001 as a dedicated allergy and asthma clinic, the practice has spent the past quarter-century helping thousands of patients better understand and manage allergic and respiratory conditions.
Established to provide specialty-focused care in a community setting, Dakota Allergy & Asthma has grown alongside the Sioux Falls community, serving children, adults, and often multiple generations of the same families. From the beginning, the clinic was built around the idea that patients benefit from accessible specialty care combined with long-term education and support.
Caring for patients through changing seasons and evolving needs
Although allergies are often associated with spring and fall, winter presents its own challenges. Cold air, indoor allergens, respiratory illnesses, and dry environments can contribute to increased asthma symptoms and chronic cough. During the winter months, Dakota Allergy & Asthma continues to support patients with asthma management, and indoor allergy evaluation.
Food allergies remain a year-round issue for many families. Ongoing evaluation, testing, and education play an important role in helping patients navigate daily life safely and confidently, regardless of the season.
How allergy and asthma care has evolved over 25 years
While the clinic’s commitment to patient-centered care has remained consistent, allergy and asthma treatment have changed significantly since 2001. Over the past 25 years, Dakota Allergy & Asthma has adapted alongside advances in the field, including:
Improved diagnostic testing to better identify allergy triggers
Modern asthma management strategies focus on long-term control and prevention.
Expanded food allergy services, including testing, challenges, and oral immunotherapy options for appropriate patients
Increased emphasis on patient education and shared decision-making.
These developments allow providers to tailor care to individual needs while helping patients understand their condition and treatment options.
A team-based, community-focused practice
Today, care at Dakota Allergy & Asthma is delivered by a team of two board-certified allergists, Dr. Bubak and Dr. Durón, certified nurse practitioners, Lindsey Peterson and Daniel Lindquist, and support staff. The clinic remains locally based and works closely with primary care providers, pediatricians, and specialists throughout the Sioux Falls area to support coordinated care.
Allergists at Dakota Allergy & Asthma are on the medical staff at both Avera and Sanford health systems, helping ensure patients have access to specialty care that fits into their broader healthcare journey.
Looking ahead
As Dakota Allergy & Asthma enters its next chapter, the clinic remains focused on maintaining access to care, continuing patient education, and staying current with evidence-based approaches to allergy and asthma treatment. The goal remains the same as it was in 2001: to support patients with clear guidance, thoughtful care, and winning long-term management strategies.
