Comprehensive care for pelvic health needs

Bladder health is a concern many patients face yet rarely discuss openly. Many women experience symptoms like urine or stool leakage and bothersome vaginal bulges, with 1 in 3 affected by pelvic floor conditions – often after childbirth, menopause or aging. Urinary incontinence, including stress incontinence (from coughing, sneezing, laughing or activity) and urge incontinence (difficulty holding urine), is especially common, and these issues can affect women of all ages.

The good news? These conditions are treatable, and patients don’t need to manage them alone. Pelvic health is essential, and our team is here to help your patients achieve their best health outcomes.

Our approach to care

The Nebraska Medicine urogynecology team offers a comprehensive range of services to meet each patient’s unique needs:

Diagnostic services:

  • Pelvic floor assessment: Comprehensive evaluation of pelvic floor function and anatomy.

  • Urodynamic testing: Detailed analysis of bladder and urethra function.

  • Cystoscopy: A procedure to view and examine the bladder and urethra.

Nonsurgical Treatments:

  • Pelvic floor physical therapy: Customized exercises and therapies to strengthen pelvic floor muscles and improve function.

  • Medications: Prescriptions to manage symptoms such as overactive bladder and urge urinary incontinence.

  • Pessary fitting: A medical device placed in the vagina to support pelvic organs and alleviate stress incontinence or prolapse symptoms.

Minimally invasive procedure options:

  • Vaginal and robotic surgery: Advanced techniques for treating pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence with minimal recovery time. This includes uterine preservation surgeries for women with uterovaginal prolapse.

  • Mid-urethral sling: Procedure to reduce stress incontinence symptoms.

  • Urethral bulking: Another approach to reduce stress incontinence symptoms.

  • Sacral neuromodulation: Procedure to reduce urge urinary incontinence and accidental bowel leakage.

  • Bladder BOTOX® injections: Treatment for overactive bladder or urge urinary incontinence.

Our goal is to provide compassionate, patient-centered care that improves quality of life. We collaborate closely with primary care providers and other specialists to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs and concerns.
