Community Cancer Walk and Butterfly Release Event Scheduled

A program to help local cancer patients with items such as hair, wigs, prosthetics, makeup and other concerns is the focus of the 2026 Cancer Walk & Butterfly Release.

The annual event, organized by the Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation, benefits the Morrison Cancer Center’s Hope & Healing Program. The program provides appointments with a stylist to help patients navigate skin and hair care, along with other concerns. The program was started for MCC patients in Hastings and Grand Island with support from the GRACE Cancer Foundation.

“All proceeds from this year’s event will go directly to helping cancer patients feel and look better, giving them hope for the future,” said Dave Jones, MCC Director. “We are also excited to see patients, survivors and members of the public coming together to honor those who have fought this terrible disease.”

The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, at the Hastings College Lynn Farrell Arena. Presenting sponsor is Hastings Auto Group.

Those participants who would like an event shirt should register by May 17 at www.mlhf.org. Survivors and patients are invited to attend for free but must sign up to receive a shirt. The butterfly release alone is also free.

Members of the public are invited to sign up for $25 (including the butterfly release, walk and event shirt). Those ages 12 and under can register for $10 each. Memory signs are available to purchase for loved ones who have passed away for $10.

If you have questions about the event, please contact the MLH Foundation at 402-460-5600.
