Free Columbus Community Hospital Lunch & Learn Explores Breast Cancer Genes

Your genes affect your body in numerous ways. But did you know they can also affect your overall breast cancer risk?

Columbus Community Hospital is offering a free Lunch & Learn featuring Dr. Christopher Veale, a radiation oncologist with Columbus Cancer Care. Veale will discuss the BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations and how genetic testing may help you learn whether you have them.

“We continue to gain knowledge on the impact of risk factors for various cancers,” Veale said. “Breast cancer, in particular, has benefited from a deeper understanding of these different factors. For some people, genetics play a significant role in their risk of developing breast cancer. They can help guide screening recommendations and even treatment decisions.”

The event will be at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the Platte and Prairie rooms at the hospital. Following the presentation, Veale will answer questions from audience members.

Participants should register for the event by Friday, Aug. 14, by calling 402-562-3380 or visiting columbushosp.org. Registration includes a light lunch.

You may choose to attend in person or via Zoom. A link to the Zoom event is available online at columbushosp.org.
