Celebrating One Year: Code Brew Serves Up Coffee At MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center

For one year the smell of coffee has filled the lobby at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center. Code Brew, the hospital coffee shop, opened on September 7, 2021 and has been making an impact on colleagues and patients ever since.

The shop name was selected from over 300 colleague submissions, with two colleagues, Lynett Kayl and Tyra Le both submitting “Code Brew.”

“There is so much more than coffee and delicious drinks being served at Code Brew,” said Lea Greathouse, vice president of Mission, marketing and support services. “Our baristas have been serving joy, comfort and encouragement to our colleagues and visitors over the past year.”

Code Brew lead barista Morgan Branum is no stranger to a hospital coffee shop. For her, coffee means finding that moment of comfort or that short moment to take a breath.

“Often times family members don’t want to miss an update about their loved one,” said Branum. “So, they don’t sleep, and they drink a lot of coffee.”

You’ll often hear Branum telling her joke of the day or asking a colleague about their granddaughters’ recital. For her, it’s more than just pouring a cup of coffee.

“My cup has been truly overflowing because of all the amazing people who work and visit MercyOne,” she said. “Being able to make people smile has made my work more than just a job. It has reinvigorated my passion in customer service and I’m looking forward to continuing to serve this community.”

Code Brew, located inside the hospital lobby at 801 5th Street in Sioux City, is open to the community with drive up delivery available. The shop is open Monday through Thursday 6:30 to 4 and Friday 6:30 to noon.
