Columbus Community Hospital Drives Economic Growth Across the State

Columbus Community Hospital will generate more than $317 million in total economic impact during 2025, supporting nearly 1,750 jobs across the state and contributing more than $9.3 million in state and local tax revenue, according to an analysis by IMPLAN, an economic impact modeling software.

The study shows that CCH strengthens Nebraska’s economy through three primary channels:

  • Direct impact: Provides 944 jobs, generates $169.5 million in revenue and contributes $3.1 million in taxes.

  • Indirect impact: Supports 372 jobs, generates $68.3 million in revenue and contributes $2.2 million in taxes through contractors, linen services, restaurants and hotels.

  • Induced impact: Sustains 434 jobs, generates $79.4 million in revenue and contributes $4.2 million in taxes through employee spending on real estate, utilities, retail and entertainment.

“Columbus Community Hospital is not just a place for healing — it is the heartbeat of our community and a crucial pillar of Nebraska’s economy,” said Michael Hansen, president and CEO of the hospital.

“The hospital’s impact reaches far beyond our walls,” added Chad Van Cleave, vice president of financial services. “Each job here ripples outward, supporting local industries like restaurants, real estate and professional services.”

CCH’s role extends beyond health care, strengthening a wide range of industries across Nebraska. In 2025, some of the most impacted sectors include:

  • Other real estate: $11.3 million in revenue and 66 jobs.

  • Employment services: $7.3 million in revenue and 54 jobs.

  • Restaurants: More than $6.6 million in combined revenue and 64 jobs.

  • Professional services: Nearly $6.9 million in revenue from accounting, legal and administrative services.

“Every patient we care for supports local jobs and businesses, contributing to a robust and thriving community,” Hansen said.

The report shows how the hospital’s activity benefits not only Columbus, but also communities across the state.

“Every dollar spent at Columbus Community Hospital creates a ripple effect, strengthening local businesses and generating more than $9.3 million in state and local taxes,” Hansen said. “By supporting Columbus Community Hospital, we are investing in the prosperity of our families, neighbors and communities across Nebraska.”

The data highlights CCH’s importance as both a health care provider and an economic anchor. Investments in the hospital contribute to job creation, community growth and statewide economic stability.
