Columbus Community Hospital Encourages Aspiring Nurses to Apply for Fall Internship Program

This fall, men and women who are interested in becoming a nurse will be able to apply for Columbus Community Hospital’s highly successful Student Nurse Internship Program.

This comprehensive initiative helps develop the next generation of nursing professionals, offering invaluable hands-on experience and significant financial support. Individuals can apply for the program between Sept. 15 and Oct. 31.

CCH designed the program to address Nebraska’s nursing shortage head-on. It is essential for building a future health care workforce dedicated to serving our local community and ensuring continued access to vital care.

The CCH Student Nurse Internship Program features three distinct pathways, tailored to support a diverse range of students. Whether you’re pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or an Associate of Science degree in nursing, or are a certified nursing assistant looking to become a registered nurse, this tiered approach provides customized training and mentorship.

A cornerstone of the program is its commitment to easing the financial burden of nursing education. CCH will cover up to 75% of tuition costs — along with expenses for books and fees — for selected interns. This support helps participants build a strong foundation for a successful nursing career. Interns are paired with experienced mentors, providing them with the skills, expertise and support needed to navigate their studies with confidence.

The internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain practical experience within a dynamic hospital setting, working directly with experienced nurses and health care professionals. They can apply their classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, developing crucial clinical skills and building confidence. This experience bridges the gap between academic learning and practical application, helping students discover their passions within nursing.

CCH is expanding its ability to support future nurses with the backing of the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA). While the internship has had a strong history at CCH, this collaboration with the NHA adds an additional layer of support, helping future nurses navigate the challenges of nursing school.
