Columbus Community Hospital Announces Exceptional Volunteer of the Year
Columbus Community Hospital is proud to announce Michelle Kissell as the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award. This prestigious recognition honors a volunteer whose compassion, commitment and embodiment of CCH’s ICARE values — Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence — have made a profound impact on the hospital community.
Each year, a diverse committee of hospital staff reviews nominations for the award, evaluating candidates based solely on the merit of their contributions — not their identity. This ensures that the recognition truly honors an individual’s impact and dedication.
This year, the hospital received 12 nominations representing seven exceptional volunteers, with several individuals receiving multiple nominations.
Michelle Kissell stood out among the nominees, having received three heartfelt submissions — two from nursing staff and one from a patient. Her nominators praised her unwavering dedication, selfless giving of time and compassionate presence.
A particularly moving nomination came from a patient who described Michelle’s weekly visits, her emotional support and the friendship that has blossomed since May 2023.
“Her visits give me something to look forward to on Mondays,” said hospice patient Patricia Person. “She’s always happy.”
Michelle's warmth, reliability and kindness have clearly left an indelible mark on the lives of those she serves. Her actions exemplify what it means to be an outstanding volunteer at CCH.
