Nine-Week Cancer Recovery Program Debuts at Great Plains Health Callahan Cancer Center

The Great Plains Health Callahan Cancer Center  will host "Survivorship 101," a nine-week program supporting cancer survivors and their  caregivers, beginning June 3.

Led by specially trained, professional facilitators in a small group setting, the program  offers research-based advice on managing side effects, nutrition strategies, exercise  regimens, stress reduction techniques and improving intimate relationships.

Sessions will run weekly from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays through July 29 in Conference Room  C at Great Plains Health, 601 W. Leota St., North Platte.

"Survivorship 101 serves as a step towards reopening your world after being focused on  treatment for so long," said Kathy Gunderson, program coordinator. "The program  creates a supportive community where participants can connect with others who truly  understand their journey."

A long-term evaluation study with nearly 1,000 participants reported the program helped  reduce depression and anxiety while increasing hope, resilience, quality of life and  happiness.

The program welcomes patients with recurrent or metastatic disease as their health  permits, as well as survivors whose treatment ended months or years ago but who still  face challenges. To register, contact Kathy Gunderson at gundersonk@gphealth.org or  308.568.7544.
