Brookings Health Launches Clinical Enrichment Internship Program For Nursing Students

Brookings Health System has partnered with the South Dakota Board of Nursing to offer a clinical enrichment program for nursing students. Applications for the paid summer internship are being accepted now at brookingshealth.org/Careers.

“Part of Brookings Health System’s vision includes investing in tomorrow’s workforce. We have a history of teaching the next generation of nurses,” said Inpatient Care Director Jaclyn Rauen who worked with the South Dakota Board of Nursing to establish the program. “The learning experience we are offering will help nursing students to develop confidence and competence in their clinical skills. It will also help them smooth the transition from student to licensed nurse after graduation.”

The clinical enrichment program runs for 10 weeks and offers nursing students the opportunity to continue learning the practice of nursing outside their formal education. Selected candidates will be paired with a nurse preceptor in their area of interest: obstetrics, inpatient care, surgery or emergency services. As an intern, students will perform tasks of direct and indirect patient care under their nurse preceptor’s guidance.

At the time of the internship qualified candidates must be one to two semesters away from completing their degree with an accredited registered nursing program. They must also meet Brookings Health’s pre-employment requirements and be certified in basic life support.

Brookings Health’s workforce embodies the spirit of teamwork, working together across disciplines to care for local patients and residents. Individuals who want to join Brookings Health System’s Top 20 Rural Community Hospital team can find a position right for them at brookingshealth.org/Careers.
