Black Hills Surgical Hospital Achieves Milestone With First Symplicity™ Renal Denervation Case

Dr. Jeffrey Wilson, MD, and Dr. Thomas Wilson, MD, interventional cardiologists and vascular specialists at Black Hills Heart & Vascular Institute, successfully completed the first case using the Symplicity™ (RDN) renal denervation system in South Dakota. This marks an important milestone in expanding advanced treatment options for patients with uncontrolled hypertension. This minimally invasive therapy was performed at Black Hills Surgical Hospital.

Renal denervation is a minimally invasive, catheter-based therapy designed to help reduce blood pressure by targeting overactive renal nerves, offering a new option for patients who have not achieved adequate control with medication alone.

“This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing innovative, evidence-based therapies to our community,” said Dr. Jeff Wilson. “Introducing technologies like RDN allows us to better serve patients who continue to struggle with hypertension despite standard treatment.”

Dr. Thomas Wilson added, “Our team is proud to be among the early adopters of this therapy and to offer another advanced option that may improve long-term outcomes for our patients. We are the first practice in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana to implement this technology.”

The Symplicity system is developed by Medtronic and has been studied extensively in global clinical trials demonstrating its safety and effectiveness in lowering blood pressure.
