Avera Medical Group Urogynecologist Dr. Matthew Barker Elected To National Board

Matthew A. Barker, MD, FACOG, has been elected to the position of Director at Large on the 2023 American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) Board of Directors. His three-year term as Director continues 2023 – 2025.

Dr. Barker is a fellowship-trained urogynecologist with Avera Medical Group Urogynecology in Sioux Falls; Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Center; and Academic Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neurosciences and Internal Medicine at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.

Dr. Barker joined Avera in 2009. He attended USD Sanford School of Medicine, completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics in Madison, Wis., and did his fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

AUGS is the premier non-profit organization representing professionals dedicated to treating female pelvic floor disorders. Founded in 1979, AUGS represents more than 2,000 members, including practicing physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, nurses and health care professionals and researchers from many disciplines. For members and constituents, AUGS is the primary source of clinical and scientific information and education in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.
