Avera Welcomes Two New Physicians to Hawarden and Akron Clinics
Avera Health is growing its family medicine team in the Hawarden and Akron, Iowa areas with the addition of two physicians who bring both deep regional roots and varied clinical backgrounds to their new patients.

Dr. Richard Andersen
Dr. Richard Andersen joined Avera in July 2025 and now sees patients at both the Hawarden and Akron clinics. A Sioux City, Iowa native, Andersen completed his undergraduate studies at Briar Cliff University before earning his medical degree at Des Moines University, where he was awarded the Naval Health Professions Scholarship Program.
His path to family medicine ran through the Navy. Andersen completed his internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego and his residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, then served across several duty stations before being honorably discharged from Naval Hospital Great Lakes in 2015 with a Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
Since 2015, Andersen and his wife, Megan, have made North Sioux City home, where they're raising two young children, Avery and Charlie. He welcomes patients of all ages and backgrounds, with an approach centered on building trust and keeping communication open between visits.
Dr. Anne Healy
Dr. Anne Healy, MD
Dr. Anne Healy began seeing patients at the Akron clinic in February 2026. Healy grew up in LeMars, Iowa, and earned her medical degree at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine before completing her family medicine residency at the Center for Family Medicine in Sioux Falls. She went on to pursue additional training in obstetrics and surgical obstetrics through Avera in Sioux Falls.
During her medical training, Healy received the Gold Humanism Award and a National Health Service Corps Scholarship. Her practice reflects a broad scope of family medicine, spanning obstetrical and pediatric care through geriatric and internal medicine. Healy is also teaching faculty with the University of Iowa, extending her interest in rural community medicine into the classroom.
Both physicians are now accepting new patients at their respective clinics.
