AMA Interim Meeting To Convene Friday Outside Nation’s Capital

The American Medical Association (AMA) will gather physician and medical student leaders from all corners of medicine in National Harbor, Maryland to shape the health care agenda of the nation’s largest physician organization.

Physicians will assemble for the Interim Meeting of the AMA’s House of Delegates, the policy-making forum at the center of American medicine consisting of 700 physicians, residents and medical students representing their peers in every state and medical field.

Delegates will work in a democratic process to create a national physician consensus in response to emerging health care issues in the United States. The resulting policies guide the AMA as it represents the physician voice in efforts to advance patient care and improve the nation's health care system.

During the five-day meeting, the AMA House of Delegates will deliberate and vote on policy proposals related to government, public health, science, ethics, and business. Notable proposals being considered for AMA support, include:

The AMA’s policy-making body finalizes the business items to be considered during the meeting.

This presentation will outline successes and challenges in advancing health equity during the initial implementation period of the AMA Health Equity Strategic Plan, and how it has informed the AMA's work to embed racial justice and advance health equity.

Pandemic Preparedness and Response Town Hall

2:00 - 3:00 pm ET - Maryland Ballroom
Maj. Gen. (ret.) Paul Friedrichs, M.D., Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy, will present an overview of lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, and discuss the increasing risk of future biologic threats and plans to mitigate that risk.

The Climate Crisis: Pathways to Decarbonizing the US Health Sector

2:15 - 3:45 pm ET - Potomac C
Hosted in collaboration with the National Academy of Medicine, this presentation will examine public and private programs that have been launched to improving the carbon footprint of the entire health care system and drive more sustainable practices that can have significant health, social, and economic benefits. Information will be shared on innovations, best practices, and lessons learned from health care leaders, front-line faculty, and learners who have established successful sustainable approaches in the health sector.

Building Sustainable Value-Based Payment: Data Sharing and other Practical Steps for Success

3:45 - 5:00 pm ET - Potomac C
The AMA has partnered with AHIP and the National Association of ACOs (NAACOS) to explore how to overcome key barriers and grow broad-based participation in value-based payment (VBP) arrangements. This session includes a diverse panel of subject matter experts who will discuss opportunities and best practices based on their real-world experiences. Discussion will build on the initial phase of work focused on data sharing, in addition to other key building blocks such as payment methodologies and specialty-primary care coordination.
