Altru Celebrates Completion of New Hospital, Sets Official Opening Date

Altru Health System, in conjunction with PCL/Community Contractors, has  reached a pivotal milestone for the Altru replacement hospital project. On September 26,  substantial completion of the hospital was achieved ahead of schedule, meaning that  PCL/Community has completed the majority of construction activities under their scope of work,  and Altru has taken ownership of the building.

“We are thrilled to have reached this important milestone in our replacement hospital project,” shared Derek Goebel, CFO for Altru. “We are grateful to PCL/Community Contractors for their  commitment to the project and to the many subcontractors and their teams for bringing our  vision to reality.”

“On behalf of PCL/Community Contractors, congratulations to Altru Health System on this  monumental achievement,” shared Trent Johnson, District Manager for PCL Construction. “This  is a journey that spanned several years, we are honored to be a part of the resilient team that  persevered through a global pandemic and the uncertain economic times that followed. We  share this honor with the Grand Forks community, JLG Architects, our local trade partners, and  the hundreds of women and men that helped deliver this fantastic facility.”

In addition to achieving this milestone, Altru has set the planned opening date for the new  hospital of January 19, 2025. All patients will be transitioned from the current hospital to the new  hospital on that day, and operations will begin at the new hospital and cease at the current  facility.

“Over the next three months, we will be focused on training our teams, completing inspections from regulatory organizations, installing furniture and equipment and completing final touches,”  shared Chris Arnold, director of plant and facilities. “Many activities must take place to prepare  for transition, including several renovations of other facilities, such as Altru Behavioral Health  Center. While we’re excited about this milestone, there’s still a lot of work to be done before we  can welcome patients to the new facility.”

Altru will host a community grand opening celebration on January 9 ahead of this transition.  Tours, refreshments and entertainment will be available. More details will follow about the event.
