Altru Health System and CommonSpirit Announce Transition of CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake to Altru Hospital Devils Lake

Altru Health System and CommonSpirit Health have officially completed  the transaction to transfer ownership of CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake to Altru Health  System, effective March 1, 2026, marking an important milestone in expanding access to care  across the Lake Region.

The transition brings the hospital in Devils Lake under Altru Health System, strengthening local  access to comprehensive, high-quality care while ensuring patients can continue to receive  services close to home. Going forward, the hospital will now be known as Altru Hospital Devils  Lake.

“We are excited to officially welcome the Devils Lake team to Altru and to deepen our  commitment to patients and families throughout the Lake Region,” said Todd Forkel, CEO of  Altru Health System. “This transition represents an opportunity to make a meaningful difference  in the lives of those we serve. Over the next several months, we will be expanding services and  enhancing care offerings to better meet the needs of this important community.”

This milestone reflects a collaboration between Altru and CommonSpirit, guided by a shared  commitment to ensure rural communities continue to have access to strong, sustainable  healthcare services.

“We are grateful to the employees and medical staff who have remained focused on patients  throughout this process,” said Tim Bricker, President of CommonSpirit Health’s Central Region. “This transition supports continued local access to care and positions the hospital for a strong  future serving the Devils Lake Community.”

CommonSpirit expressed appreciation for its long-standing service to the Devils Lake  community and confidence that the hospital will continue its legacy of compassionate care  under Altru’s leadership.

Altru has worked closely with hospital leadership ensuring continuity of care for the community.  Medical records have been fully synchronized across the network, and the provider team will  support both Altru Hospital Devils Lake and Altru Clinic Devils Lake.

Both organizations reaffirm their shared commitment to serving rural communities and ensuring  access to care for those who are most vulnerable.

The Altru Hospital Devils Lake team was welcomed into the health system with a ceremony  celebrating the transition on Monday, March 2. Going forward, Altru will be focused on providing  a seamless care experience for patients.
