Advanced Tendon Pain Therapy Now Available at Monument Health

Patients in the Black Hills region suffering from chronic tendon pain now have access to a minimally invasive treatment that can provide relief without major surgery or long recovery times.

Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician Hollan Harper, D.O., is now offering advanced treatment for painful tendon conditions affecting the shoulder, hip, elbow, and other areas. Dr. Harper is using the newly FDA-cleared Tenex 2nd Generation technology, which allows him to safely treat hard-to-reach areas like the shoulder and hip that were previously more difficult to address with minimally invasive options.

"For many of my patients, chronic tendon pain has kept them from enjoying daily activities—whether that's playing with their grandkids, working in the garden, or staying active," Dr. Harper said. "This treatment gives us another tool to help people get back to doing what they love, often with a much faster recovery than traditional surgery."

The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting using only local anesthesia and requires no stitches. Most patients return to normal activities within 6 to 12 weeks. The treatment can address conditions including tennis elbow, jumper's knee, plantar fasciitis and rotator cuff tendon issues.

Dr. Harper is a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician at Monument Health's Orthopedic & Specialty Hospital. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Monument Health in 2019 and his sports medicine fellowship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, in 2020. He is also a team physician for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Hardrockers.
