5th Annual Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series Raises Over $30K For Mental Health With In-Person And Virtual 5Ks

The 5th Annual Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series for Mental Health kicked off in Hawaii on April 23rd and finished in the Milwaukee area on June 12th, raising nearly $32,000 for mental health awareness.

After three years of the pandemic, over 700 participants joined Dr. Adel Korkor in the 5th Annual Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series. Korkor returned to run the first in-person 5Ks since 2019 in seven in-person events, with the other 43 events being held virtually. Korkor emphasized his key facts at each event: mental health problems are common nationwide, disabling and costly, impeding physical health and significantly increasing morbidity and mortality in all sufferers.

“I was thrilled to return to in-person 5Ks this year. Being able to run and talk with fellow supporters of mental health awareness was inspiring,” said Korkor. “I was amazed by the stories I heard and the support seen throughout each event. While we still have a long way to go to bring awareness and aid to support mental health, making these connections and showing support to those who suffer from mental health illnesses has already created an impact.”

The funds raised from the Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series will be used to increase awareness of mental health illnesses, reduce the stigma of mental health, address the shortage of affordable care, promote the importance of physical activity and emotional wellness in maintaining mental health, fund research and support underserved communities.

Over 600 runners participated in the seven in-person events held in Hawaii, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Alaska, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Mental Health America, Cushman & Wakefield Boerke, Rogers Behavioral Health, North Shore Bank, American Architecture Group, American Construction Services, TC Lyons Electric, J.P. Morgan and carelistings.com sponsored the 5th Annual Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series for Mental Health.

The Five Fifty Fifty Run/Walk Series for Mental Health began on April 23rd in Honolulu, Hawaii and concluded on June 12th in Korkor’s home state of Wisconsin. Nearly 135 million people were reached during the 50 events through in-person interviews with the media, broadcast news coverage and print/online newspaper coverage.
