Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls has expanded their oculoplastics surgical offerings thanks to the addition of Zac Keenum, MD. The leader in surgical vision care will also expand their capacity for advanced cataract, LASIK, cornea, and glaucoma care with the addition of Tanner Ferguson, MD.

This expansion of Vance Thompson Vision’s offerings will help meet the immense need in the region for patients seeking oculoplastic surgery and will continue to bring the highest standards of education, training, and experience in surgical eye care to Sioux Falls.

Filling an Immense Need: Oculoplastics

Oculoplastic care, a branch of surgical procedures that restructure the area around the eye, can be highly desired by patients for cosmetic reasons and often can be medically necessary. Some patients have eyelid conditions that block parts of the visual field; others look to rejuvenate the lid or brow area for a more youthful appearance.

Oculoplastics providers will offer surgical and non-surgical methods to address eye-area concerns, including upper and lower blepharoplasty. Vance Thompson Vision is built around delivering world-class care for patients, investing in the most advanced technology, and developing a highly-trained team. This mission matches with the expansion of our oculoplastics care and new providers.

Zac Keenum, MD, Oculoplastic Surgeon

Dr. Zac Keenum joins the Vance Thompson Vision team in Sioux Falls, SD to provide compassionate, expert oculoplastics surgical care to patients, specializing in aesthetic upper and lower blepharoplasty.

“Being a doctor is first and foremost a service profession,” Dr. Keenum said. “We’re taking care of people who trust us with their well-being, which is a huge privilege, and I do my best to honor that trust.”

Dr. Keenum recently completed an elite two-year American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship (ASOPRS) at the University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas, TX. His ASOPRS fellowship provides a high level of experience in plastic surgery around the eyes and face, making him an expert in dealing with the unique challenges of eyelid surgery.

An artist and a scientist, his many talents come together beautifully in oculoplastic surgery, using his artistry in surgery as well as crafting solutions with science and inventing. Dr. Keenum also has a passion for sharing science, research, and emerging technologies through educational videos on Instagram as @doctoreyeballmd.

Vance Thompson Vision is built around delivering world-class care for our patients, investing in the most advanced technology, and developing a highly-trained team. Dr. Keenum is a great complement to those efforts.

Tanner Ferguson, MD, Ophthalmic Surgeon

Dr. Tanner Ferguson will provide advanced cataract, LASIK, cornea, and glaucoma surgery at Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls.

“Being able to see allows people to navigate the world and do the things they want to do,” Dr. Ferguson said. “People with vision conditions may fear they’re losing their independence. We can provide both vision restoring and vision enhancing procedures, allowing people to resume or continue doing the things they love to do, and that’s what makes this profession so rewarding.”

Dr. Ferguson grew up observing his dad’s excitement and energy for eye care as an optometrist, which stimulated his initial interest in the field. During his undergraduate and medical studies, he worked closely with Dr. John Berdahl and Dr. Vance Thompson on multiple research projects, cementing his desire to pursue ophthalmology. After medical school, he completed his residency at the Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by a one-year fellowship at Vance Thompson Vision specializing in advanced cataract, refractive, cornea, and glaucoma surgery.

With his passion for advancing ophthalmology through his research efforts combined with a profound compassion for patients, Dr. Ferguson will support Vance Thompson Vision’s mission to provide world-class eye care.
