Updates To Make-A-Wish Eligibility

At Make-A-Wish, we celebrate medical advancements and improved treatments for the wish kids we serve—children diagnosed with a progressive, degenerative, or malignant condition that is currently placing their life in jeopardy. These advances also allow us to regularly evaluate the eligibility criteria for a wish.  Nineteen physicians from diverse backgrounds who volunteer on our National Medical Advisory Council, as well as some of our Chapter Medical Advisors that number over 200 nationwide work together to provide guidance in this process.

As of January 1, 2024, Cystic Fibrosis will no longer automatically qualify for a wish. CF will then be eligible when accompanied by additional complications or factors that make that current situation critical. To learn more about these updates click here.  For the remainder of this year, CF will continue to automatically qualify and referrals can be made at md.wish.org.  At this website, you can also reference other changes to our Referral Guidance Sheets (RGS) that recently went into effect.  To review the list of changes by subspecialty, please click here.

Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.  If you have any questions regarding your patient’s eligibility or the updated changes within your subspecialty, please contact Alissa Blank, Medical Outreach and Intake Manager at ablank@sdmt.wish.org.
