This approach allows a strong provider-patient relationship and ensures your comfort and satisfaction throughout the process. Keep reading to learn more about how Dr. Alison R. Tendler and the team at ART Vision can help you rejuvenate the delicate area surrounding your eyes, resulting in a brighter appearance and a brighter outlook on life!

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a widely performed cosmetic procedure aimed at rejuvenating the eye area. It encompasses the removal of excess skin and/or fat pads from the upper and lower eyelids, including the eyebrows. Not only can this procedure make you look younger, but it can also address functional concerns such as impaired vision from too much skin or impaired muscle function around the eye area. In this article, we will guide you through the process of eyelid surgery at ART Vision, explaining its benefits and how it can help you.

Scheduling an Appointment

The first step in your eyelid surgery journey is to contact ART Vision to set up an appointment. You do not need a doctor referral to make an appointment, unless it is required by your insurance. During this call, one of our team members will discuss your medical history, concerns, and answer any questions you may have. This information will help us determine the appropriate appointment type for your specific needs. Following that, you will undergo an in-office evaluation, including a thorough examination and any necessary tests. If you're interested in insurance coverage, a visual field test may also be conducted. Finally, you will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Tendler, who will assess your condition and test results, discuss surgical and nonsurgical options, and develop a personalized plan to help you achieve your goals.

The Surgical Experience

On the day of your surgery, you will come to the office at ART Vision, located at the Galleria on the corner of 69th and Western in South Sioux Falls. You should plan on being in our office for two to three hours, during which our team will provide you with post-operative instructions, answer your questions, and administer any necessary anesthesia. One of the best parts? Most often, only oral anesthesia is required, minimizing the need for IVs and heavy sedation. After receiving a numbing injection around the treatment area, your eyelids will be thoroughly cleaned to minimize any risk of infection. Post-operatively, you will spend some time in the comfortable recovery area.

Post-Operative Expectations

Please make sure to follow the provided aftercare instructions and attend all scheduled visits to allow our team to monitor your recovery effectively. To alleviate discomfort, it is recommended that you use cold compresses frequently to reduce swelling and bruising, which can typically last around 10-14 days. Initially, you may experience mild discomfort, but this improves over time. Each individual's healing process is unique, but most people can expect to return to work or resume driving within a few days.

In most cases, there is only one required visit to ART Vision approximately 10 days after the surgery, to remove sutures if necessary and monitor your healing. Patients often report an immediate improvement in both their vision and confidence.
