Two Couples Honored By Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation

Two Hastings couples were honored at the Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation’s annual STARS Come Out! gala event on August 12.

Barb and Randy Ruhter and Dr. George and Colleen Adam were honored with the William H. and Alice T. Lanning Award. The award recognizes those whose support and commitment to Mary Lanning’s mission exemplifies the vision of the Lannings. Honorees demonstrate a generous devotion to the advancement of healthcare by offering their time, talents and resources.

The Ruhters were honored for their commitment to local, non-profit organizations, especially

Lutheran education and health-related causes. The Ruhters owned and operated Ruhter Auction and Realty. Randy Ruhter served on Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation board and was instrumental in starting the Frahm Legacy Society. The Adams were honored for their more than 50 years of contributions to the health and enrichmentof Hastings. Dr. Adam was the first dedicated obstetrician/gynecologist in Hastings. Colleen Adam served on many health-related boards, including the Mary Lanning Hospital Authority, the Mary Lanning Healthcare Foundation and the Home Away From Home task force.

About 195 people attended the annual STARS event, which took place at BRIQUE 1887 in downtown Hastings. Funds raised by the Foundation will help support the MLH Healthcare Foundation endowment and purchase of patient recliners for Mary Lanning Healthcare, a non-profit, independent organization.

In addition to a meal and the Lanning Awards, the evening also included a presentation by Brown’s Shoe Fit to MLH nurse Karla Anderson. Anderson received the distinguished Daisy Award earlier in 2023 for giving her shoes to a patient whose own shoes were worn. MLH presents the Daisy Award to nurses several times throughout the year for outstanding service.
