Sanford Fargo To Host Doc Talk AboutRobotic Total Knee Surgery

Sanford Health Fargo is hosting a Doc Talk discussion to educate the public about an option for total knee replacement surgery.

The event is on Monday, June 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, 1720 University Dr. S., Fargo.  There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Dr. Nick O’Neill, DO, Sanford Health orthopedic surgeon, will help the community learn more about the benefits and techniques of the Zimmer Biomet ROSA (Robotic Surgical Assistant) total knee replacement surgical option available at Sanford Fargo.

In June 2019, Sanford Fargo performed the first robotic total knee surgery in North Dakota using ROSA. Since then, Sanford Fargo has completed over 500 total knee replacement surgeries using ROSA. ROSA technology uses 3-D pre-operative planning tools and real-time data to improve bone cut accuracy and range of motion gap analysis. Pre-operative x-rays are also used to create a 3-D model and plan of the patient’s bone anatomy.

During surgery, the surfaces of the joint are cleaned and shaped to hold the prosthesis. When the prosthesis fits correctly, its parts are secured to the thighbone, kneecap and shinbone. The parts are then joined, forming a new joint. A new knee joint most likely brings less pain and better ease of movement.

Sanford Health is dedicated to providing the communities it serves with relevant and up-to-date health information. Doc Talk is a free educational series where Sanford physicians present and answer your questions on a wide variety of topics.
