Prairie Lakes Physical Therapist Completes Certification

Tyler Turbak, Doctor of Physical Therapy with Prairie Lakes Rehabilitation Services completed a certification as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy.

As an orthopedic clinical specialist, Turbak uses his expertise to prevent injury or physically rehabilitate persons with a disability resulting from impairment or injury to the musculoskeletal system and related nerve and blood vessel components. He uses advanced techniques and methods to assist patients toward their best function through corrective, adaptive, and preventive methods.

Those who would benefit from orthopedic physical therapy include individuals who have undergone orthopedic surgery such as a joint replacement or ligament reconstruction, but also acute trauma such as a sprain or strain.  Students who are injured participating in athletics are often seen first by the school’s athletic trainers. The athletic trainers at Watertown High School are members of the Prairie Lakes Sports Medicine team. If the trainers determine further rehabilitation is needed, a physician or provider can make a referral to Prairie Lakes Physical Therapy.

“Providing therapy with an orthopedic focus has become a niche of mine, and I take pride in progressing patients through their individualized rehab program with the patient’s goals and aspirations at the center of my care,” said Turbak.

Turbak continues his education by learning new evidence-based techniques to benefit his orthopedic patients, such as Personalized Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation (P-BFR). After completing the certification exam for Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Turbak attended an expert clinic on P-BFR this summer. P-BFR is ideal for an individual who is unable to tolerate the recommended amount of resistance or duration of exercise that is required to progress through rehabilitation.

Those who would benefit from physical therapy can ask their provider or physician for a referral to Tyler Turbak at Prairie Lakes Rehabilitation Services. For more information call 605-882-7700.
