Now Accepting Applications For The Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program

Columbus Community Hospital is committed to sharing the positive aspects of nursing and supporting those who are passionate about health care. With that end in mind, we are offering the Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program.

Because of the estimated nursing shortage, the hospital wants to make sure there are enough nurses for its patients. We encourage individuals choosing a career in nursing to apply for the Nurse Apprenticeship Program.

“Our community is full of talented individuals,” said Tawny Sandifer, vice president of patient care services at the hospital. “We are looking to the future by investing in people who are interested in becoming nurses and returning to the hospital to practice. This program supports each person through their journey with scholarships, financial support and mentoring to help them grow and return home to serve our community.”

During the program, the nurse apprentice will receive a coach, who will mentor them through their journey of becoming a nurse. Apprentices are required to work a minimum of 24 hours per month while in the program.

They will receive work experience and scholarship assistance from the hospital that covers up to 75% of school tuition, books, and fees (up to hospital policy). Program apprentices can qualify for loan forgiveness after graduating and successfully passing board exams. The employment commitment to Columbus Community Hospital will directly correlate to the amount of financial support the apprentice receives.

This program allows individuals enrolled in a nursing program to gain additional knowledge and skills by working in the health care setting,” said Alecia Neidig, professional practice director for the hospital. “On top of the additional exposure, they are immersed in the CCH culture. They can get to know their peers across the organization and develop a support network of people who are rooting for them to be successful. Ultimately, this will promote their confidence as they enter their nursing careers.”

Applicants should submit the completed application along with their resume and transcript, a brief essay regarding their desire to become a registered nurse, and two letters of reference.

Please send your application to Alecia Neidig, director of professional practice, or Dona Kudron, director of outpatient nursing services, at Columbus Community Hospital, PO Box 1800, Columbus, NE 68601. Applications are due by March 31, 2024. If accepted, applicants will be notified by May 2024.

For more information, please contact Neidig at 402-562-3366 or Kudron at 402-562-4624, or visit columbushosp.org.
