Huron Regional Medical Center Honors Reimer As February Exceptional Employee

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently honored Jenny Reimer, RN, BSN, as the February Exceptional Employee of the Month.

Reimer, a registered nurse in the wound care department, was nominated by a patient. “Jenny has always been there for me. She is accommodating and makes convenient treatment times. She always answers my questions, making sure that I fully understand and makes each patient feel as though they are the only person on her mind,” according to the patient’s nomination.

“Jenny does an exceptional job when treating my wounds and is kind and honest. She not only listens to me, but talks to me about the things she knows are of interest to me during treatment.”

HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.

As February exceptional employee, Reimer received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.

Reimer earned her Associate of Science degree at Huron University, Bachelor of Science degree at South Dakota State University in Brookings and Wound, Ostomy and Continence degree from Metropolitan State University.

Reimer has been employed by HRMC for 40 years. She began work at HRMC in 1983 as a receptionist in the emergency department while attending college. She has worked in many areas of the hospital including inpatient departments, surgery and dialysis. She worked in home care and hospice for 26 years before joining the wound care team.  “Home care and hospice were areas of nursing that I truly loved, which included treating wounds, so in 2015 I decided to expand my interest in that area and joined the wound care department, which I have enjoyed seeing evolve and grow,” said Reimer. “I thought I would be retired by now, but my husband passed away two years ago to cancer, which made me decide to continue my career in wound care, which I love and learn from on a daily basis.”

Reimer lives on an acreage south of Huron. She has two children and three grandchildren: Joanna and fiancée, Jim, who live in Woonsocket with children, Grady (17) and Greta (15); and Justin and partner Sara, who live in Sheridan, Wyoming with son, August John (18m).  Reimer enjoys riding horses, gardening, crocheting, and spending time in the Black Hills.

Patients or visitors can nominate an exceptional employee by calling 605-353-6539 for a nomination form or via e-mail at hr@huronregional.org.
